So somali maids are basically prohibited from being legal domestic workers yet still do anyway and end up being the least paid out of all thirdies (bengalis, filipinos, ethiopians, etc.)? How does is this ban beneficial for Somalia the hell?
And then also at the same time maids in Somalia are also common so whats even the point of migrating to a different continent???

First l, there waay less Somali maids than Ethiopians/Kenyans or any other african.

Second, somali maids live in the Arab countries with there families and only come during assigned hours (that why you don't hear as many Somali's being raped or abused by arabs) other African live with their employers.

Third, same reason why Somali go and drown in the Mediterranean in order to get to Europe. Desperation.

The ban isn't there to benefit somalis, it there on all "Arab" countries cos they don't want Arab speaking maids.

It is not legal to hire women from Arab League countries as maids, from what I gather. And as someone who was born and raised in the UAE, you never see anyone with a Somali housekeeper if they are not Somali themselves. contractors take a big chunk of housemaids paycheck in the middle east. Most housemaids under contractors take home no more than $150 a month. That's about the same salary maids earn in hargeisa. It might benefit poor Ethiopians but $150 is nothing for somalis

True. Maids in the middle east have no basic human rights. Their passport are confiscated by their contractors so if they risks escaping from an abusive employer, not only they don't get paid their entire salary but they also risk jail time. The middle east is by far the worst place to be a maid. Arab wives tend to have absurd jealousy when there's a maid in the house and will sometimes abuse the maids. Arab men can also sexually abuse the maid. Many Ethiopian come back from the middle east pregnant.
