And how much influence do clan elders have on their fellow clansmen. Have their ever been in recent time "peace talks" between members of different tribes with the goal of a united somali race in mind? Just curious.

The reality of the ground of Somalia is a society in total break-down and this is compounded by

1) The civil war scars and abuse all qabils felt as a consequence.

2) This has further been compounded by climate change that has made grassing land and water sources scare. This increases dependency on qabil.

3) The lack of reliable education, reserved for the few has left the young population to the whims of the interest of an older generation that has squandered a great nation to a fail state and now only seek to advance their own interest as they are no higher goal.

Somali love to hold talks and meeting but rarely produce action because the underlying factors are not addressed and it is reduced to a niceties meeting where nothing values is made.

How do we change it?

Recognize qabilism as an integral part of Somali society but slowly exchanging it with state functions that qabil neutral and over time the dependency will reduce the need for it.

This requires basic welfare and institutions to replace qabil and a credible court system to deal with disagreements.

What's your qabil :lolbron:

Jk jk: qabil is good in moderation but Somalis have taken it to the extreme :(

If every qabil was to mind its own business and not butt into other qabils affairs there would not be a problem.

Humans are instinctively tribal if resources are scarce and there's no other form of social security. And ever since the civil war, there's really been no effective central government, so how can anyone blame people relying on their qabil instead? Once Somalia sees peace and stability (i.e no more constant bombings by al Shabaab), then maybe qabyalaad will start to go away, but until then no.

Qabiil isnt exclusive to the south...

But to answer your question, I doubt it. I dont think Somalia will be peaceful in the next 20 years. Gotta be realistic:manny:

No. Siyaad Barre (AUN) tried it and it didn't work. In fact, we descended further into chaos.
We're like the Arabs 1400 years ago. Somali's need to understand the deen. This comes from jahilnimo.

Qabil is like the tooth fairy. Do you wanna kill the tooth fairy too?

I don't believe there is such a thing called Somalnimo, forget this eerie myth ppl call Somalweyn.

The thing is...qabilnimo makes no sense. if we were diffrent ethnic groups we can find a way to integrate. But everyone wants their entire family line up to their father to have power, ts doesn't just stop at darod, isaaq, hawayie, it keeps going form sub clan to sub sub sub clan.
there only so much you can do to appease these people.

Funny thing is if Somalis fail to unite and rebuild we will forever be in other peoples lands and begging the world for aid.

There is Somalinimo though in the diaspora, not too sure about back home.

Qabiil is partially the problem, poverty is the real culprit! 90% of clan confrontations are due to poverty.

So from the posts here I'm getting that, qabil is only the surface of the issue? and that the problems facing somalis are much deeper then this.

It's not a surface issue. It's the root cause of all our problems. Can you imagine what Somalia would be like if people were devoted to the nation as much as they are devoted to clan?
