I agree to a certain extent. But I was referring to how the west isn't the main obstacle preventing the balkanization of Ethiopia.

If Ethiopia 'naturally' collapses due to internal conflicts, just like Somalia in the 90s, the new emerging states wouldn't likely be recognized. You need to accepted by the UN to become a full-fledged sovereign state.

As for the Somali region, we don't have to worry since we already have two countries that we can absorb into, in the case of a succession from Ethiopia.

Amhara land is poor, they need to exploit the resource rich lands of other ethnicities to develop their region. So they wouldn’t benefit from becoming their own country unless they could steal a lot of land from other ethnicities.

I think Amhara nationalism is one of the few things that could break Ethiopia fairly quickly. They'd need to stop the cope of trying to govern the whole country, but the absolute natural conclusion of Amhara nationalism is the reverting of Menelik's conquests and retreating towards a homogeneous Orthodox nation-state in Abyssinia.

I think they'll eventually make common cause with Tigray/Somali/Afar separatists. Think how Russian elite in the USSR were pro breaking up the union as they saw it as a drain on resources, Amhara's have far more reason to want to break up Ethiopia than Russians did, I think they'll come to this conclusion soon.

The near entirety of Afwerkis political life has been in fighting the TPLF and he’s playing a dangerous game pandering to the people who pose the biggest threat to his power. EPLF main slogan against Ethiopia during their struggle was getting Eritrea free from Amhara domination even though Oromos had sizable membership in the Derg regime but ofc they like the majority gallas they spoke Amahric as their 1st language.

True but they’re overpopulated and it’s difficult to mechanise agriculture in the Amhara region due to the mountainous geography.

I'm guessing they'd invade Eritrea eventually for a coast. Amhara+eritrea+Tigray would form a fairly robust state for African standards. The creation of Somaliweyne and Abyssinia would be a great outcome.

I'm starting to see Amhara in Ethiopia on Twitter talk about regretting involvement in the entire Ethiopian project, I think these ideas will catch on fast IMO.

If Ethiopia balkanizes by definition the states will be recognized because it won’t be unilateral like SL, the country will have dissolved. If Arat Kilo no longer exists then it is a fait accompli that Ethiopia no longer exists.
