What's weird about this is that a few years back, he said it was one of his favourite places in Africa. Someone in the comments said that this yahuud probably got angry about the support for Palestine from a lot of Somalis so he's there to spread bad news.


Another thing i find odd... going through the comments, ajnabis seem to insist Mogadishu is the most dangerous city in the world, even when proven wrong with stats and official lists

Why do people seem to have such strong opnions about us and our country/culture, without ever having met any of us or researching themselves? and when proven wrong, refuse to believe it?

The FGS is the main reason for this. They benefit from maintaining that dangerous perception. I genuinely feel bad for Somali travel agencies and investors. Somalis are putting in the effort to uplift the capital, yet the FGS does nothing to showcase it or regulate the reporting around it.

They haven’t even bothered to repair that ruined lighthouse or clear out the surrounding area. And private citizens likely can’t do much about it because it’s technically considered public land or government property , that’s my assumption at least.

It reminds me of something I said months ago when a similar video was circulating was shared:

So much of the development and growth of Mogadishu has been happening in the last 8/5 years carried mainly by private sector.

The tragic part about it is that , they rarely take foreigners to the areas of the capital that received development and has economic activity.

They intentionally go to the war torn old broken or abandoned beach sides used as fishing grounds and ruined parts of Mogadishu and i think they pay people to take them there. To relive the dangerous experience. They don't go the regular safer areas or the newly constructed and rebuilt parts of Mogadishu or even shopping districts either.

This is how most of the beach looks like that people visit and hang around , its very clean

They also don't take them to the clean green beach sides that people actually go to , that have resorts and various activies like scuba diving , snorkling and motors

They don't even take them to the new fancy restaurants and cafe's by the beach front, but will take them in front of abandoned dirty fishing ground next to a fishing market


Not even visit the new mosques and major areas of congregation. They will gladly pose instead next to ruined Italian lighthouse in an abandoned area.

But it actually highlights how crappy the FGS is as @Devilsadvocate pointed out, they are the least patriotic Somali government, they don't do a rebase that would actually show that Somalia has a GDP of 90 or more billion to reflect the economic growth and changes happening in the country and they don't make sure that tourists coming into the country are blocked from visiting certain areas and don't do trespassing.

It actually runs contrary to their proclaimed statements on how they want to attract foreign investments. If i am going to receive foreigners i want them to see the attractions, i want them to see the progress and economic potential of the country, that's how you attract foreign investment.

Inshallah once they complete the Marina beach project, Dahab Tower and other neighborhood projects , it will take away from this. They should be thankful that they have still Somali investors and entrepreneurs that are willing to uplift the country.

We should definitely set up a petition to get this done , you’re absolutely right. They’ve renovated a lot across the city, but somehow that lighthouse area and the surrounding old town/beachfront have been completely neglected.

It honestly wouldn’t cost that much, and the renovation could be completed pretty quickly. But to be honest, I feel like buildings in general should be set back further from the beach. They should take notes from what Reer Waqooyi/Somaliland did with Berbera.

They built walkways, shaded benches, parking areas , all set back far enough to open up the coastline for everyone. You walk or drive a bit inland and then enjoy a clear, open view of the sea.


I remember seeing a tweet talking about this exact idea for Mogadishu , that a future government should prioritize it.

Its insane to think that we have a government that actually tries to make the country look much worse than it actually is to the point they give out fake stats about poverty. It sounds so absurd that the country with one of the worst reputations would want to keep it that way

The Somali Federal government is the exact opposite of the Ethiopian government. Instead of trying to attract investment, it's fixated on attracting aid, so they project two completely different realities. Ethiopia, despite being deeply impoverished and underdeveloped, promotes itself as stable and open for business. Meanwhile, Somalia, an entrepreneurial, and a resource-rich country with a highly innovative wealth generating population, is deliberately portrayed by its own government as dysfunctional, dangerous, and destitute. Why? Because that image keeps foreign aid flowing, extends their political shelf life, and justifies the ongoing foreign presence propping them up.

Meanwhile, most of Somalia is actually functional, self-reliant, stable and operates independently from the FGS, including parts of Mogadishu through the Banadir Administration.

Every time I see Hassan Sheikh and his cronies speak at international forums, it’s embarrassing. His pitch to the world is always some variation of: “We are poor, please help us,” or “Our big achievement is that we went from a transitional government to a fragile state.” Like… seriously?

He doesn’t even try to highlight Somalia’s actual strengths, our expanding trade links, our fast-growing economy, our remarkably resilient and innovative private sector, or the booming business ecosystem. He doesn’t challenge false narratives or show tangible proof of Somalia’s progress, even though there’s a long list of self-funded, Somali-led developments happening across the country with almost no foreign investment.

All he ever parrots are tired NGO talking points backed by fake stats, as if the FGS actually monitors or controls the economy at all. It really is embarrassing, and it totally undersells the real story of Somalia.

There are no cows pooping, there is no bullets firing and many areas have improved roads infrastructure.

That’s because many parts of Mogadishu have not only had their roads improved, but also seen better waste collection and public maintenance:


The Banadir admin has started to build and upgrade roads in the other districts and residential neighborhoods.

New roads have been paved and tarmacked between neighborhoods as ''community roads". Over 11 km of community roads in 10 districts have been marked to be developed to improve access and reduce build up.

They’ve also started repairing and upgrading damaged drainage systems, not necessarily because the infrastructure was poorly built, but because it wasn’t originally designed to handle the rising levels of seasonal rainfall and increase in urban population.

You can keep clinging to an image of Mogadishu from 15 years ago, but it won’t change the fact that actual progress is happening , and it's visible to anyone who's paying attention or even visiting. That’s the reality. Not glaze. Just facts.

Hassan Ali Khayre has a totally different rhetoric and clearly wants to attract investors and partners to Somalia.

Only Allah knows who will be president but his chances of becoming one is very high, arguably one of the strongest candidates right now.

Yes Kheyre will get rid of Shabaab because he has a long term view of things. Shabaab is linked with corruption and corruption is linked with Shabaab. Both are rive in Somalia. Apart from being a qualified politician that studied political science in the west he is also a self made millionaire. A safe Somalia will draw in more foreign investors that will invest in Somalia which will in turn drastically increase the gdp which is currently at a mediocre level.

Listen to these 2 recordings. He always talks about Somalia’s potential. Shabaab has to go because it will benefit businesses men like himself in the long run. We talking trillions of dollars here!

Outside of the roughly 3 million IDPs displaced by floods and climate-related disasters in the south , who are understandably more vulnerable to food insecurity , most Somalis have stable access to food. There's no widespread shortage or crisis. The average Somali, especially those outside affected zones, lives a normal life in that regard.

If you look up the Somali Agriculture Technical Group (SATG), they’ve published scathing critiques of how humanitarian organizations actively block Somali-led efforts to reintegrate IDPs into productive livelihoods. These efforts include long-standing seasonal mechanisms, local supply chains, and communal support systems. Instead, these groups act as gatekeepers, undermining local initiatives and then turning around to release misleading statistics and generalized metrics.

This is especially deceptive because most of Somalia is self-reliant and thriving across multiple sectors. So these narratives aren’t just inaccurate , they completely ignore the on-the-ground reality.
