Yep, laakin/lakinse is used by the majority... but the right one is balse...

I use both, depending on the people I talk to.

To elderly somali people, I use balse... but the youth and teens of my age...
I just say laakin.

But bal in arabic means something close to rather, or denial of something. But the somali bal seems to be used more as an intensifier
