The US is not the only country to want oil, they just want to monopolize the resource worldwide to starve out potential competitors in a hypothetical time of war. If you see the top 10 countries in oil reserves only 3 are anti-US right now. Many of these countries are US allies, have a regime propped up by the US, or were invaded by the US.
