Greenland is going to be a net drain, like it is right now for Denmark. It is one of those places simply not really meant for human habitation. People will talk about rare earth minerals, but the thing is, there are places on Earth where it's far easier to dig them up than in Greenland. A lot of rare earth minerals aren't as valuable as they seem, lithium, for example, has utterly crashed in price because non-lithium batteries have entered the market, and more lithium deposits were found than people originally thought.

US already has a military base in Greenland, prior to this all US-Denmark relationship was borderline vassal-like, Greenland annexation was completely unnecessary if you’re already allowed to pretty much do whatever you want in Greenland for close to 80 years.
America is the world largest economy in the grand scheme of geopolitics things like quality of life don’t really matter (most European nations won’t be able to afford there welfare states soon anyway ) If Greenland becomes independent it’s gonna need a lot of capital To Develop its recourses and military protection makes sense they would join America after all there located on the same continent
The only other option is the UK but it’s a weak nation economically and militarily plus it’s a vassal state they would be forced to renounce there 1920 deal with Denmark to be given first dibs on Greenland
