Well actually the Persians didn't do too bad overall, they managed to receive the subjugation of over half of the city-states of Greece including Macedonia. It was only the Athenians and the Spartans who gave them any real trouble. In the Battle of Thermopylae, they won against the Greeks even though the Greeks inflicted heavy casualties on the Persians due to the terrain. The sea battles were more in the Greek's favour and they managed to delay the Persians at Artemisium and defeated them in detail at Salamis.
