Border between Somalia & Ethiopia

I just noticed that the border has dotted lines on Google Maps, indicating the demarcations are unclear.
Had me thinking....can people travel freely between the borders? Are there no border crossing? I'm pretty sure there's one between the Hargeisa/JigaJiga corridor where people/vehicles are searched etc but I'm curious about the rest of Somalia.

For example can people travel directly north from Galkacyo/Beledweyne to Buhotle or do they have to travel around? How far east can they go before they see a border crossing?

You have to travel around because that is the way the road goes, if you want to take a normal road from Somalia to Ethiopia you will come to a border check.

But if you travel off road anywhere you will not encounter a border check.

@fais interesting. There will be a road directly north one day in the future (whether 20 or 50 yrs from now)....I wonder if that would require a border crossing just to go back to your own country, that's messed up.

Also, what are the requirements for crossing the border? Do you need a visa to go to Gode, for example? Are Somalis manning the crossings or Habash? (weird question but I'm curious)

Unless a VISA free entry is agreed upon then you have to "Check in" and "Check Out".

Holders of Somalia passport or Somaliland passport gets VISA on arrival. and the border crossing guys are somalis...
