I understand her sentiment, but she should push for the United States to recognize a separate ethnicity for Black Americans. I've heard some use the term Foundational Black American (FBA) or American Descendant of Slaves (ADOS). It should be a protected ethnicity so that when they do get reparations, only the FBA will get it and no one else, not even the Caribbean. If I were a FBA, I would be spending this time getting documents to prove that their ancestors were enslaved in the United States.
Regardless, she's a bit ignorant on the Somali one she mentioned. "Somalian" is a nationality, but "Somali" is an ethnicity. The fact the she brought that up and grouped it with "Nigerian" makes me wonder whether she's aware that Somali can be ethnicity and a nationality.
