When the second wave of Asians came to America they too were red lined. They weren’t allowed to open businesses in white neighborhoods competing with white people (who elected the liquor board/ city council which gave out licenses). Guess where they were allowed to open businesses?

Today Arabs and other Muslims are on the same boat. No asian refugees because there’s no wars in Asia. When some of these older Muslim come they aren’t able to integrate as easily. But they can rely on family networks to pool capital together which they can use to buy inventory. Which item sells best in poor neighbors where Muslims can afford to open businesses today?

Still it’s horrible. Alcohol, tobacco, lotto tickets, pipes, even vapes for kids…

But don’t you also see Muslim dry clean owners, restauranteurs, halal meat shops, clothing and cell phone retailers, etc…

Yea I was just about to type this.

A lot of African Americans that break into the middle or upper class have no interest in building businesses in their old neighborhoods. Hence why Asians and Arabs pull up to take advantage of this opportunity. It's risky business and a lot of Madows know this. If you set up shop in the hood you gotta worry about getting robbed. Asians and Arab fobs are willing to take the risk.

I even stopped entertaining discussions about gentrification in America when I realized a lot of people that lived in the hood had no interest in actually buying their homes when they were affordable.

It’s like some of you are purposefully missing the point the sheikh is trying to make. At least watch the videos. The sheikh is saying that it’s one thing for non-Muslim Asians or Arabs to sell haram, but Muslim merchants should know better. There are so many ways to succeed in the U.S. and so many opportunities available to us—yet they choose the haram route? They’re taking advantage of vulnerable, low-income communities. The sheikh even sees some of these Muslim merchants at the local mosque, and after finishing their prayers, they go right back to their stores to sell haram.

This isn't going to change. The same TJ that ur talking about set up shops right next to UK schools and sold vapes and alcohol under the counter for everyone. multifaceted issue, philly has a large islamic community, non black muslims actively selling them haram is clearly based on a "it's not us" mindset. Not saying that they don't sell it to each other too, but you know theres a difference.

Black americans can only do so much if they don't control their own markets, large amounts of this aren't their fault considering how much their community has actively been torn down by governing forces systemically. But the only solution is to own for themselves.

Arabs who come to America are usually upper middle class and are not really religious the ones in Europe are the opposite
