BIG NEWS: Somalia has finally signed the UNESCO world heritage convention

The convention was signed in july 2020 and we are the last africam country to adopt it.
This means that potential cultural and natural world heritage sites in Somalia can be recognized. Somalia currently has no world heritage sites but there are some good candidates that include: Mogadishu old town and mosques
Islamic and pre islamic burials in somaliland

This will open to more research on somali history and archeology
 
Laas geel, Naaso Hablood are also great candidates. I'm sure there are hidden cities and monuments underneath all that sand too :lawd:

Number One on the list should be the Zeila Masjid it is in need of rebuilding and is our oldest mosque.
Unfortunately many of ut has been damaged or looted I even read of a local Shaykh who was trying to build a new masjid on it.
The area should be protected and cleaned up

Thats why it should be prioritised because the building has been destroyed. Perhaps with a UNESCO heritage recognition it will allow for costs to be covered.
