Berbera Port in Somaliland is described as the most valuable asset in the Horn of Africa

Berberra was already a deep port. I think it was the Americans who built it. UAE never invested 500 million, not even close. So far they only put 15 million with the cosmetic work.

I think it is a bad deal for Somaliland. Any profits will go to UAE. Prices of goods will go up and has already went up.

The answer is Hobyo. Local investments and cheaper goods. So locals will get rich. Somaliland business community should have invested in Berbraa port. It was already a deep port. Now they gave it away for free for thirty long years.

The only time when it makes sense for UAE to invest is Bosaso because Bosaso's future is questionable and punites don't have enough money to develop it. But did UAE invest in Bosaso? Hell no. Because Bosaso doesn't have a deep port unlike Berbera which already did.

This is a steal and a good deal for UAE. Berebra port was an already developed deep water port built by the Americans. So it did not need big investment.

Has the UAE built anything tangible but just cosmetic works like paint? Now they get 65% of profits and Somaliland only gets a third.

So Somaliland government gave away an already developed port to UAE. Time will only tell if trade will go up but if it doesn't than it is really bad news for Somaliland.

Somaliland should have given the port to local businesses and kept 80% of profits.

Its a prostitute port, idoor have no say over it. Owned by Amhara now(used to be owned by tplf, and UAE

And stop deleting my damn posts, you cheap sleazy idoor.

Incorrect the 19% which was supposed to be Ethiopian was unclaimed so DPW and SL made a partnership with UKs CDC in return for £400mn in investments

If you've actually seen the work carried out so far and compare it to how it was in 2017. You would delete this comment.

They spent 1.3bn so far and planning to spend another 1bn more to further expand the port

Please describe the work they did. Berebrra was already a deep port thanks to the Americans who spent 500 million.

What the UAE done could have been sone by locals.

Likewise UAE hasn't spent a penny in Bosaso.

You give 70% profit for 30 years to someone who has just painted the place. This will make Somaliland poorer and at a disadvantage. Unless Ethiopia uses the port or its use is greatly increased.
