Beaten into memorizing abtirsi

Someone once wrote "my grandmother will coax and even beat me to learn my father's ancestry eight hundred years back, to the beginning of the great clan of the [ ]"

Do you know your abtir, and was it really that serious for you? Were you ever beaten into memorizing it?

I was taught the names of my father's ancestors as a child, but no one made it a big deal.

My dad paid £1 for every name I knew after my great grandad, I was only 9/10 at the time and was taught my abtiris till my subclan of HG.

Out here
I knew mine when I first went to somalia. My mums wasnt that hard as both parents are abgaal

my paternal grandma, however, used to try and teach me her lineage every single morning while I was eating my breakfast. I never remembered it.

How much of it do you still remember? I hardly remember any of it.
I still remember it, In fact I can add 2 extra names now lol.
Damn I knew I was hawiye at 15 and learned my sub clan of hg just last year.:damn:
My parents taught me my abtiris but not my clan tho. I could say all these names up till Sacad but I had no idea what the significance of Sacad was :deadrose:
I didn’t even know what HG was and that Sacad was a subclan of it or even Hawiye till I was like 15

Sayid Maxamed baa Gabay ku tiriyay that sacad was ogaden hadii loo abtiriyo. I would think there is some truth to it. Anyways, what do you think of the Sacad that claim Ogaden, do you claim them?

My dads side of the family is from Galbeed and I’ve never heard anyone claim Ogaden, I severely doubt any of us call themselves Ogaden.

I know you’re 100% wrong even tho I don’t know much about tribes so I’ll refer you to my cousin @Samaalic Era

@Toriye

We are HG Hiraab, of the line of Gorgaate, Son of Hawiyah

We are not Ogadeen, sayid thought he was Qurayshi so his views are irrelevant kkkk

I was taught until my 4th grandpa because thats where my Reer starts(we have a certain nickname),as I got older I asked my dad and he taught me until the subclan of my tribe.Off the top of my head though I only remember 9 names and im pretty sure it was 14-15 for my subclan.

I don't know much about qabiils either. I just did some digging and the story goes like this, gidiray had a child with makaahil Ogaden (Sacad) and she later remarried madar kicis who had two sons from the previous marriage. Sacad was very young when his mother remarried so he ended up taking after his Hawiye side. There is an Ogaden Sacad clan that calls themselves rer sacad but claims the same origin as Sacad Hawiye.
