Barbar is a lineage.

Barbar & Greeks (I)

(Medieval Sources)

"Because the Berbers were called Al-Barbar by the Arabs, the early modern Barbary seems to be a re-adoption of the name from Arabic."

Thus, it suggests that Barabra is a real ethnical name, confused later with Greek and Roman barbarus, and revived in its proper meaning subsequent to the Muslim conquest.

The interesting thing is Arab historians came to identify North African Berbers with Middle Eastern Canaanites due to influence by rabbinic traditions which upheld that the Canaanites emigrated to Africa.

13 The Canaanites of Africa: The Origins of the Berbers according to Medieval Muslim and Jewish Authors

(Ancient Egyptian Records)

First, the term "Barabara", or "Barabra", appeared in an Ancient Egyptian inscription as "one of the 113 tribes recorded in the inscription on a gateway of Thutmes, by whom they were reduced about 1700 B.C."Secondly, according various sources including Encyclopaedia Britannica (Eleventh Edition, Volume 3, Slice 6, 1910), "In a later inscription of Rameses II. at Karnak (c. 1300 B.C.) Beraberata is given as that of a southern conquered people. "A tribe living on the banks of the Nile between Wadi Haifa and Assuan are called Barabra [p. 379]."

This is a real lineage.

I made this post because I think there is something weird going on with the term "Berber" and the Greek term "barbarous."
  1. Why did Greeks decide to call this term this meaning?
  2. What happened between the Somali and the Greeks?
Greeks & Amazigh connection.

The influence of the Amazigh civilization on the religions of the Greeks and Pharaohs Before the arrival of Abrahamic monotheism, the Mediterranean basin was dominated by polytheistic religions. The Egyptian civilization of the Pharaohs then that of the Greeks more strongly, were inspired by the Amazigh civilization called at the time Libyque. Indeed, the majority of Gods that the Egyptians and Greeks worshiped were Amazighs. This shows once again that the Berbers, from the earliest times, exerted an influence on their neighbors, due to their civilization.
  1. Amon: since ancient times, the Amazighs worshiped the false god Ammon, the god-ram, then worshiped by the Egyptians who practiced the worship of the ram. Ammon was of Berber origin and his cult spread to Egypt.
  2. Baal-Amon: the Phoenicians settling in Amazigh country, will found with the Berbers the Carthaginian civilization. All their gods will be associated with those of the Berbers. Example: the Phoenician god Baal will become Baal-Amon showing the Berber-Phoenician character of this Empire
  3. Neith: One of the greatest female deities was of Amazigh origin. This was confirmed by Greek authors like Herodotus and Plato. The Egyptians took it back; it is represented in many monuments such as Luxor.
  4. Athena: Greek goddess who will give the name of Athens to the capital of Greece. She is from present-day Tunisia and Amazigh; the Greeks resumed its worship. Herodotus confirms this and adds that Athena's clothes were typically those of Berber women.
  5. Poseidon: false Amazigh god taken over by the Greeks. Herodotus insists that no one worshiped Poseidon as much as the Amazighs who spread his worship in neighboring countries.
  6. Atlas: it is associated by Herodotus with the Atlas Mountains, which the Berbers venerated. It was taken over by the Greeks.

Greek doesn't look like tifinagh at all and the two languages don't even have the same origin or formed the same.

Yes, they do; they took some of our letters. People confuse them frequently, why do you think the Greek Alphabet has Berber characteristics?, there was a deep cultural correlation between Greece and the Berbers before the birth of Christ, they used to speak some common words and believe in the same gods, for instance believing in the god Antoeues who was considered the protector of the Tamazigh land from invaders and he was married to the goddess Tangis which the nowadays Morrocan city Tangier was named upon

Greek adopted the Amazigh dress which we call Toga (1), much of their alphabet is from the Berbers (2).

So how can people who clothed and educated Greeks be called Barbarians (Berber)......
