In 2012, They took over the Tuareg territory in Northern Mail with the help of Alqaeda . The Azawad Declaration of Independence and their alliance with AQ spooked France and all of the neighbouring states into action . It is one of the poorest regions in earth , however the Tuareg area in Niger is rich in natural resources . Gaddafi was the main supporter of the Tuaregs .
