Awdal parliamentary elections results for the districts of Borama, Baki, Lughaya and Zeila.

Confirmed results

Awdal has 13 parliamentary seats in the SL parliament representing Borama, Baki, Lughaya and Zeila districts.

12/13 are Gadabursi.
1/13 is Ciise.

The results for the district elections mean that the mayors of Borama, Baki and Lughaya and their vice mayors will all be Gadabursi and with the Ciise gaining a slight majority in Zeila district means the Gadabursi will be vice mayor of Zeila.

I expect the next election battleground in Awdal will be the Zeila district once again as it's always tight and is a hotspot for political activity as it borders Djibouti. The last regional elections in the Zeila district, the Gadabursi won 10/17 seats and the Ciise won 7/17 seats.

The dangers of democracy and elections with Somalis.

They look at everything through tribal ignoring that each represents a political party.

Tribal rivalries will increase, and the presidential elections next year might be at boiling point.

@SirLancelLord I actually think the next presidential election in SL will be less problematic than this parliamentary election that has just taken place. With the presidency only three men will compete and all three will belong to just one clan (two of those three belong to the same sub clan)

Ibro

When you want to fool the world, tell the truth.

That wouldn't be the case if political parties would give a party manifesto, so they would be voted on what ideas or what they would do when in power. But they don't, so everybody votes clansmen instead.

The curse of Somali tribalism .
even when elections are held , Somalis will turn it into a tribal competition , a qabiil olympics,
No one really cares about the ideologies or the agendas of those who they're voting for , all they interested in is , Is he from "their" sub clan or the rival one .

SL should of went China route. Somalis tried democracy in 1960s and it led to a dictatorship and corruption.

If you went China route and focused on development you would be in a much better position. Read up on Thomas Sankara, he is a good guy.
