Australia Votes This Saturday

The contenders.

The incumbent, Prime minister Scott Morrison from the Australian Liberal (Conservative) Party who became a prime minister after an internal coup that ousted the sitting prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull. He is the first Australian prime minister from a Pentecostal Church and many don't trust him because of that, just like Mitt Romney's Mormonism didn't make him cross the line against Obama. He has a Homeland security minister who simply doesn't like African refugees. If returned back, family reunions for African Australians and in particular for Somalis and South Sudanese will cease to exist.

Prime minister Scot Morrison

Australia's Homeland Security Minister. Peter Dutton. He is he most hated and divisive politician in a major party. Likes to portray himself as an Alt-Right. Might challenge for the top job again. Rank and file conservatives don't like like him since he organised the coup to get rid of a popular prime minister.

Their opponent.

The opposition leader, Bill Shorten from the Australian Labor Party, who promises everything to everyone. He is an environmentalist when speaking in Melbourne and a coal miner when he is in Queensland. He will say anything to please everyone. Untested yet on his immigration policies.

Opposition leader, Bill Shorten

I predict a hung a parliament, maybe Labor could just cross the line with a one or two seat majority.

Aussies, what is your take?

Did the New Zealand shooting make immigration concerns a taboo subject this election cycle? Since you guys are close allies to NZ and the guy was an Australian.

In most Western countries elections seem to be all about immigration/identity politics, especially in the past 10 years or so.

@Apollo

I think it did because the incumbents would've fought a bloody fearmongering campaign on an immigration platform on this election, but the Christchurch shootings has so far changed the situation and none were conducted so far even by the smaller racist parties. Since the government introduced the offshore asylum centres in Nauru and Papua New Guinea, the asylum seeker boats coming from Indonesia came to a halt and stopped, but the process has been deemed inhumane and inadequate by millions of Australians. Billions of dollars have been spent on bribing these governments to host these refugees and Australian companies running these offshore centres. Many refugees have killed themselves and many others were diagnosed with serious mental illnesses. They reached a deal with (the dying days of his administration) Obama to take these refugees in-exchange for the U.S to dump theirs here (as long as they aren't Muslims or Africans) like those unwanted by the Central and South American nations like some of the gang members MS13's. Trump refused to take the Iranians and the Somalis and took the others. New Zealand stepped in and offered to take those rejected by the Americans as refugees. The Australian government refused. The opposition always pledged that they will accept the New Zealand deal and the government planned a campaign to portray them as weak on border control and claim that they stopped the "Muslim boats" and Labor wants to restart it.

Identity politics is mainly from the supporters of the fringe racist parties and I think that none of them will win a parliamentary seat. Maybe a senate or two seats.

RIP to Bob Hawke, one of the greatest Australian (Labor Party) Prime minister passed away an hour ago. As a so called socialist and a committed trade unionist, he introduced economic rationalism to Australia. He deregulated the financial sector especially the banks, floated the Australian dollar, reintroduced Medicare as we know it today, Australian Law became independent of the British parliaments and courts, enacted compulsory superannuation for all workers, outlawed sex and racial discrimination at the work place, established an indigenous commission run by aboriginal people and more modern and progressive legislations. A great leader. RIP Hawke.

Well....it will effect the old, young, disability and health sectors.
The rich will get richer and poor/middle incomers will struggle.
Also there’s refugee problems especially it comes to their health and well being. They are neglected and mistreated.
@aussiehustle what’s like for fdc? More cuts?

everything could happen but my gut feeling he lose. Republicans will try to cheat by stuffing ballots and denying many blacks to vote but democrats are all too well aware of that by now.

@Yusra Luuza

I have no clue how it will affect the fdc, but Labor were offering free child care for low income earners at all the child care centres and that could've affected the fdc. The coalition offered no change and I think they will keep because the fdc is cheaper to maintain.

This face doesn't strike me as the conventional Alt Right racist imp. No, he is definitely a racist but NOT of the pure breed White kind. His face bemoans half Chinese & half white. There is indho yeer diig in him which explains the over zealous compensation to be a racist!

Also just by judging his facial spirits. i sense he likes to wear womens clothes, especially sexy stalkings

Peter Dutton, right wing horror show.

Dutton is a monster, only one or two steps away from an outright fascist. He shares the worst instincts of US president Donald Trump. He has risen to the top of the Liberal party only by outdoing his peers in his commitment to racism and bigotry.
