AU forces battle Shabaab attack in Mogadishu suburb

MOGADISHU (HOL) - African Union forces have held back an attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab in the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Sources said the militants launched an attack at an AMISOM base in Arbaow area leading to heavy gunfire. Locals reported explosions and fire exchange at about 8pm local time.

Meanwhile three people were killed and about 10 others injured Saturday evening in Mogadishu after Somali Army soldiers opened fire at a checkpoint in the city.

Sources said the soldiers fired at a checkpoint near the Turkish run Ex-Digfer hospital.
