The shock of my life was when a white male neighbour of mine told me that his new boyfriend is Somali. I told him, great. will like to meet him sometime. He organised a dinner party and invited me and my ex-girlfriend. I knew the Somali guy as a divorcee (from a Somali woman) with 4 children. The whole night, he tried to explain to me and convince me that he is not gay because he is top. I accepted his definition as not to cause arguments and asked him if he had long-term ambitions with his guy and how does he like to be addressed. He said, yes to a long term relationship and considers himself as the man in the relationship. Is he gay? I guess so, but there are many more Somali men like him, who view themselves as not gays.
