Assad and his wife welcome like open arms in the UAE

Head of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday for an official visit, the state news agency SANA reported, Anadolu reports. Assad and his wife Asma were welcomed upon arrival at the Abu Dhabi airport by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, SANA said.

Emirati news agency WAM said the two leaders held constructive talks aimed at developing relations between the two countries.
The visit is seen as part of the official Arab efforts to bring back relations with the Syrian regime after most of the Arab countries had severed ties with Damascus following the outbreak of pro-democracy protests in 2011, which were violently repressed by regime force

His dad was in power before him I believe his family are basically the royal family of Syria all but in name.

This guy murdered 1 million Syrians and displaced many more, yet these sellouts welcome him like a KING.
He is the King, his father before him ruled Syria and his son will as well. Modern day elected monarchy apparently the people actually like him.

I don't think he murdered 1 million Syrians, majority Syrians still like him, if they didn't he would've been able to hold on this long. Western media alongside The UAE. Turkey and Qatar were actually trying to get him overthrown like Gaddafi in Libya but now they have to accept his rule. I think ISIS and the Syrian rebels killed wayyyy more Syrians than Assad did with his airstrikes. There's always 2 sides to every story

Who are these people? Are they Ghosts? No sane person with a heart likes the butcher, Assad.

He is a dog and his father was a dog.

He is a dictator, not a king.

This is a rare bad take from you sxb.

His actions directly or indirectly killed and displaced millions of Syrians. The only reason he is still in power is because of Russia's timely intervention to save his ass.

He still has a lot of support from the public though, I've met Syrians in the diaspora who support him. You are right about the Russians saving him
Why his wife have the same last name as him? ma walashaay baa
maybe Levantines do the same thing for names as Europeans do when they get married?

Must've gotten that tradition from adeero crusader

That's surprising to me runtii because the Syrians I have seen curse Assad after every prayer.

From my observation, it’s mostly minorities. Christians, Druze, Alawis, Shias and secular Sunni Muslims, that supports him.

(Kurds are split, and most of them would support him as long as their political objectives (federalism, autonomy etc) is embraced by him. Even the president of ‘Rojava’ expresses this. Otherwise, generally against him.)

For two reason:
1. Because they fear that if the secular Assad is removed democratically or otherwise; an ‘Islamist’ will take over and they will ‘suffer’ under such a rule.
2. Or a minority of them, that supports him because they like him or their family/relatives benefits directly/indirectly from the regime.

In the diaspora you’ll most likely find two categories.
1. Those above mentioned sectarians, who fled because of the war, not due to Assad prosecution. Thus still supporting him.
2. Those who fled because of Assad, mostly Sunnis who he specifically targeted. But also includes the above mentioned sectarians, that fled because of forced conscription, younger people, pro-democracy people, those who suffered from regime, Russian, iranian war crimes, pro-‘Islamism’ people, AQ/IS supporters etc.

More than half of Syria’s pre-2011 population live outside govt controlled area in Syria or abroad. Meaning that within regime controlled part of Syria, has higher Assad supporter than on average.

I’ve followed Syria’s war & woes for a long time and meet lots of Syrians from different background. This is the assessment I got out of it, not that I agree with all of it either.

Realistically, Alawites would get genocided if Assad got toppled. It's self presevation at this point.

They are overrepresented everywhere and in all higher positions; business, politics, military etc and has been that way since Assad Sr. took over in the 70s. So a lot of people holds grudges against them.

But they are also those who have ‘suffered’ the most from the war on the regime side. Especially the military, where they constitute the largest share with regards to their overall population. 100k+ death from the national army alone.

Wrong, Assad massacred 10s of thousands of Syrians, not to mention the countless amount of people brutally tortured by his regime.
