Another Somalian tactic: deny their ethnicity and claim they are something else, typically Oromo. But calling them gaal would have automatically have take away their ethnic identity anyway, so saying theyre not Somali would be redundant.
It wouldn't have been long before someone said (and what many others think) he looks Bantu Christian (when he looks perfectly Somali).
I disagree; they cherry pick select stuff. Somalis will never takfir you for murder or rape or terrorism or 99% of other stuff. Somalis have an unwritten rule of silence if someone's kid is a killer or did kufsi but if someone's daughter is wearing jeans, people will call her gaal. I heard someone who called a woman "Hindi" for being a vegan. Many Somalis who came after 91' have family members who have done awful things in the civil war so maybe that's why they keep quiet on the most heinous actions and go after women who wear jeans for example or is a vegan, which is 100x worse in their minds. Another thing you have to consider is that they'll do things privately but publicly will join others to takfir people doing the exact same thing they did. Somalis are masters of this. Smoking weed doesnt take you out of the fold because many Somalis secretly smoke weed, including Salafis. They go to the masjid while high.
