OPINION Arms Embargo

If we get out of the arms embargo Al Shabab and clan militias will soon disappear. It's a matter of fact that even Amisom have weapons restrictions and they still can defeat Al shabab but they have no incentive in changing the status quo due to financial reasons and political reasons. The Somali army is 10,000 minimum and Al shabab was 8,000 at their climax but how are they able to besiege cities, control the country side, and collect taxes? Simple, because they disarmed the clan militias and have a monopoly of fire power in their areas. This means that it's very hard to resist against Al Shabab rule unless your an armed clan or have Amisom or SNA backing. Imagine if the government armed and trained locals with heavy weapons. This would create stronger local administrations and Al Shabab wouldn't have a void to fill.

Not to mention that they have landmines in most roads in south Somalia which make it imposible to even reach them. The scale tips once we get helicopters and advanced tanks. We need a monopoly in fire power and Al shabab will cease to exist.

Somaliland would no longer be under an arms embargo once we are recognised as independent. We can help
It's better we stay in the current situation instead of having a chance of going back to 1991. Somaliland could easily take over the entire south leading to another war. Also I'm not being xaasid but Al shabab are good for Somaliland becuase without Al shabab somalia would be safe for almost everything

Some drones used for intel and attack is all we need. Hopefully combo of China and Russia can get embargo lifted.

@Lion of Tanade firstly SL does not want to take over Somalia, it makes no sense since we want to remain independent with recognition. Why would a safe and recovered Somalia be a problem for SL? Terrorists hate us as well as your country but that we are a moderate nation

Then Somalia would be a threat to Somaliland that's why I believe if SL is going to be independent they should play the role of Eritrea or Djbouti to somalia
