Armenia-Azerbaijan war explained by Vox

This war proved that old military tech is no match to modern weaponry. The Armenian positions were considered literally insurmountable. And they were indeed such in the old sense of warfare. But it is the 21st century.

Both countries are relevant due to the Chinese trade route to Europe and the Eurasian geopolitics of Russia, the West, Turkey and Iran. Putin is trying hard to control Erdogan's access to the Turkish ancestral lands in Central Asia.

Spot on. If you look at the populations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, you'd think Azerbaijan should've won this war long ago no doubt but nope, the word Nagorno literally means "mountainous" in Russian. Terrain advantages were huge for Armenia. For example, in the Ogaden war, a group of Ethiopian and Cuban troops bypassed the Somali troops by cutting through the mountains, then troops were airlifted behind Somali lines. Cuban and Ethiopian troops attacked from both directions. Ground and trench warfare was pretty much a stalemate then the Turkish drones came in and destroyed everything.

I am almost certain that the war was won by the Turkish commanders. On numerous occasions, the Armenian officers said that they had no problem karbashing the Azeris but acknowledged that they were helpless against the Turks.

The head of the Baykar group, the maker of the Bayraktar drones, has confirmed that their drones use AI and can autonomously identify and destroy targets with smart rockets and bombs which are in their own separate category.

Yeah that’s true, I meant in the years that this conflict has been going on, azeri and armenian ground forces were mostly evenly matched. At the end of the day Turkey won them the war.
