I'm proud to be who I am, Somali but I'm not proud of my country. You can't hate me for that, Somalia is flailing like a dumb baby who is going through a tantrum! Somalia can't even stand as one, that is nothing to be proud of. But as I said before, I'm proud to be a Somali and represent

Bring sources for your claims. As far as I know, the Portuguese occupied the East Africa port ports and forced the Somali towns to pay tribute and it was the Ya'rubs of Oman who expelled the Portuguese from East Africa.
They sacked Swahili towns and Barawe but not any other Somali cities. They tried to go for Mogadishu but didn't because they thought they couldn't take it. It was Somalis with Ottoman allies that liberated East Africa from Portugal, Omanis played no role since they got beaten up by the Portuguese.

If anything, it was the Moroccans that broke Portuguese power as their distasterous invasion of Alcácer Quibir indirectly led to the decline of their empire.

Arabs are our brothers and some Somalis actually descend from them
Many Arabs are good people but they aren't our "brothers", and some certainly aren't descendant from them either.

I’m Somali and no matter what i say or do, nothing will change that. I’m not proud nor do i hate being Somali; it’s just apart of what i am. I don’t give it two thoughts.

I feel like those who are overly proud and make it their whole personality like certain members of this forum suffer from insecurity and low self-esteem and like to compensate by telling the world how extremely proud they are. Same applies to anyone who is overly prideful of their ethnicity or nationality.

"Self-worship" comes from the black community? Blacks are the least self-worshipping people on earth

:drakelaugh::mjlol:
I’m black and I’m proud = I’m Somali and I’m proud.
Good perspective but the above mentioned statement is wrong. Many people are proud of their ethnicity be it muslim or non muslims.
Somalis were never proud to be Somali, their pride was in their clan. This new idea was copied and pasted from the black community, that was given the phrase I’m black and proud by James Brown.

Who himself was given that phrase by the power that be to calm black folks down, after MLK, Malcolm X we’re both killed, and the black panthers and the black community at large were under attack.

So, if I were to go by that logic, our forefathers, who existed eons prior to the Civil Rights movement, had 'qab', 'han', and 'qana'ah', borrowed all of that from the Black community?

No not really, I used to feel proudful about it, but the actions of alot of somali men in this community ruin it

Alot of you will get mad but the ones who say they "love somalia" are usally trying hard to found reasons to like it. The average diaspora kid sees somalia as backwards, not developed, a place his parents left for a reason. You cant say "im proud and love it" and go for one week vacation, because your not actually experiencing the country

If it was more develped, parents didnt use somalia as some kind of punishment for bad children, and it didnt have a rude population (believe it or not somalis are very rude people, especailly very intolerant to change)
