How the hell was the Fish for Khat turned into a negative when its essentially one of our first trade deals in the last 30 years, we sell everything in international markets as private vendors in exchange for dollars and then spend the dollars on Khat in the tune of hundreds of millions, the deal Fish for Khat not only improves our shilling and our banks but has cut the cost of khat low.

We lack serious discussions on this thread, I am getting tired of Farmaajo is bad, Farmaajo is good nonsense, no one brings actual facts and figuires its all propaganda and its not bettering our insight into Somalia, we are consuming toxic BS from each other, I want a better opposition to this government so we can actually improve as a nation, not the blatant fake news and propaganda that to be frank does not even require fact checking anymore, 99% of the times its BS propaganda, someone farts Faramaajo's fault is getting old. Most of the people doing it you know who you are, losers who do not even have their guy in the government wanting to destroy the government with lies and fake controversies.

Fish for Khat > Dollars for Khat

this is the first real trade deal for 30 years, and I hope to see more trade deals especially our livestock, you make trade deals with high consumption products in exchange for high export products.

Also people complaining about state monopoly, there already exist monopolies infinitely worse than worse than the state, these are the oligarchs we know in the political realm as Damjadiid and they are heavily based in UAE, when you import or export something as a Somali company, you will most likely be blocked by them, heck I am from Kismaayo and my family does import/export, 90% of Somali market is controlled by Damjadiid whether its Hassan Sh gang or Deni gang same shit different qabiil.

I am not an economic graduate and fell for the nonsense because khat obviously has social problems with it as its a drug, but from a purely economic side of things this is definitely good for our GDP, our national bank and opens us up for more trade deals.

It’s really not that complicated: Khat is a destructive drug that has devastating impacts on the country’s health & hard foreign exchange reserves. The trade deal legitimises Khat when the government should be doing all it can to curb its use so it can be banned altogether in the future. Government should do all it can to curb spending on Khat so that citizens can spend that money on more productive things like food, education and investing in productive businesses.

I may be wrong but it's highly unlikely
Khat is like our alcohol industry. I support the trade deals and hope we spend more on them.
But khat produces more unproductive and lazy men who don’t contribute to society. This means there will be far less unemployed men which will just have a far more negitive impact on the economy. Just because farmaajo and his brother and family benefit from the profits of the devastating drugs doesn’t mean the negitives of it on the economy long term outweighs the positives that come out of a trade deal that only fills individual pockets

Economics please not social and health, Farmaajo didn't introduce Khat to the South, it was Rer Wuqooyi merchants who did that decades ago, today Khat both the Ethiopian and Kenyan Mira is highly consumed substance in the south, Farmaajo curbed the Kenyan Mira and used it halt Kenyan aggressive and exploitative foreign policy affecting JL state as well as our democracy and our territorial waters. the Khat for fish trade with Ethiopia has already improved social and health impacts of the substances did you not see the local vendors already complaining about the new regulations and prices.

Again enough about the socials and health. this is about the economics, this tade deal Khat for Fish has not only lowered the price of importing Khat but it has added to our GDP, it has also allowed us to collect import tax, VAT which fills state coffers waa guul weyn.

I think we should poison the qat and a couple of qat addicts death will lead to people not looking for qat. We should also consider killing anyone who does qat. Al Shabab territory in middle Jubba and Eastern Galgudud don't even have qat at all because everyone is scared to death.

I've been called a murtad, liberal muslim, and an Al Shabab supporter on this forum. Wallahi this barrage of name calling only proves that I'm doing the right thing. Just because I want my peole to stop chewing this disgusting thing that makes them not work and pick up AK 47s to kill innocents or set isbaaro, doesn't mean I support Al Shabab. The UK and the US have also banned khat, does that mean they support Al SHabab??
