Are Somalis African American?

I’m talking about the Somalis who currently live in America.

We are African and we live in America, does that make us African American?

However, we were never enslaved and we’re pretty new to the continent. We don’t share the same history as madows in America.

Thoughts?

No. Somalis in America are Somali-American. They descend from an sub-Saharan African ethnic group located in the Horn of Africa. African-Americans on the other hand descend from various West African ethnic groups that were located throughout West/Central Africa that is hard to pinpoint down due to the Atlantic Slave Trade. Hence why they are called 'African-American' or ADOS 'African Descendants of Slaves'.
