Lately I’ve been hearing Somalis mention how somali fathers aren’t in their kids lives which had me surprised since I always assumed most somalis were raised with both parents in their lives, are many Somali fathers leaving their children or is this just an exaggeration?

It happens. When the dad divorces the mom, he divorces the kids too.

Western custody laws are asymmetric. A father is better off remarrying and raising new children.

The thing is, most Somalis don’t even go to court to get custody. It’s due to the fear of law enforcement and lack of knowledge. Fathers could easily get at least some form of custody if they really cared.

It’s easy to wash your hands and move on when you never cared in the first place.

And a woman who chooses to marry and procreate with such trash is also trash too.

Yes, I agree. It’s so disgusting actually. How do you abandon your children like that? Of course the excuse is, “The ex wife won’t let me see them” but in reality, if they truly cared, they could go to the elders of their qabil or whatever, have a meeting and get access to their kids. Laakin they don’t want to, point blank period.

it happens quite alot the father gets a divorce and starts a new life than when they reach 20 pop up back in their life like nothing happened
