Anyone think Somalia will ever recover?

Somalia will never recover. The challenges are too great. Basic needs do not exist. It is dependent on the generosity of the world.

The world has decided to move on without Somalia and is tasking its neighbors namely Ethiopia to keep it in check.

Small scale - I think Somalis have shown a resilient business mentality in general. They are forced to rebuild constantly and they do, and we see some small scale developments in the cities (Hotels, restaurants etc.)
But recent trends with Some of the solar farms being built gives me hope for our energy sector. The oil situation would be a considerable plus if all goes well. The ports being developed gives me hope (Berbera, Hobyo, Garcad). So yeah...

Somalia can't even have an election without threats of violence so I have no hope.
Politics is cancer.

And Idk if you know what you're implying with your statement bro, but I'm sensing fkd talking points.

Ngl, people who make qabyaalist statements masked as neutral dialogue will also undoubtedly be a hurdle to Somalia's recovery. As long as there are people acting in bad faith and pretending to part of the solution when they're in fact acting with qabiil in mind, we will be confused as to why our problems are persisting.

What recent trends makes you think Somalia will recover to become peaceful and prosperous?
Yes, Somalia will eventually recover. I'm not sure if it will be still a united Somalia, but we will recover.Somalia isn't THAT bad compared to other disastrous countries, if we exclude Xamar the average somali city is way safer than Nairobi, johannesburg , cape town and other african cities in countries that are wealthier and more stable than our country. The main problem right now is terrorism, once we solve that we eill be a normal african country

What did this person say that was qabilist.

People keep wanting to make comparisons to 91'. When realistically the problem surrounding this election is a political gridlock between the FGS and PL/JL. Painting the other side as bloodthirsty has become a tool though, even though people know that's not the situation.

Small places within the greater Somali peninsula will develop. (Based on infrastructure & connectivity)

Somalis develop in these places as they will be connected internationally.

  • All settlements along the corridor between. DireDawa to Berbera (west)
  • Eastern Corridor: Berbera to Garowe as there connected by 1 long road ever settlement will increase
  • Beledweyne as the connection to burco is high between the people in the livestock trade
Xamar:
At this point I don't see it becoming part of the international trade arena but will become an influential Somali mega city.

Regardless of qabil, are people calling for violence or not.

I am Hawiye myself, if you thought I was taking a shot at Hawiye, I meant everyone anyways.

I just want a peaceful election.

We are already on the path of recovery, we have made so much progress in just 10 years. Now imagine the next 10? It’s going to be lightning speed development and a new generation of people who appreciate what good government can achieve:)

We are destined for greatness

As someone who studies post-war reconstruction closely, Somalia is not that far off from the average African country.

If the government is able to control the entire country and collect taxes, it will become much more economically powerful in an African context.

Diaspora Somalis often unfavourably compare Somalia to Ethiopia/Kenya without realising they are amongst the richest in Africa and much larger than Somalia. There are tons of nations in Africa that are roughly the same level in development without having state failure for over two decades.

As for Somalia reaching Western standards, that depends on Somalia having smart leadership and shrewd investment of fossil fuel resources into other industries.

tLdR: Hope is not completely lost for Somalia to become your average African nation, but some good fortune is required for us to become the next Singapore.
