Anyone in Medicine and Engineering(Of Any Kind) at Research level on here?

You expected something here didn't you?!?!?
Tell us what you do as a project and what you study. I do assist people from a wide variety of fields from medicine and engineering to material science with some technical work at our facility. They do develop, create and work on useful technologies that can get into the markets tomorrow.

A simple example is the design of microfluidics which enable researchers to study cancer or any other disease in isolation cheaply and effectively. Some other engineering work in magnetics, solar systems, self assembling nano-crystals that will help quantum computing do take place at my work too.

So tell us what you study and what you hope to accomplish in the future.

1st year civil, want to go into construction back home. However, mining and manufacturing steel and processing other metals has been interesting to me, is there any material you can recommend for me to get me more information/knowledge on those fields?

If you have University library card, it is cheaper and better for you to borrow books on these subjects. Some of them are digital, so you won't have to carry them around. Books related to this subject tend to be voluminous and expensive.

Do you have a particular metal/subject that you want to know how it is obtained and processed? I can find information for you on that perhaps.

Also, this website below may have links and information you may find relevant. See if you find anything that peak your interest.

To demonstrate how expensive these books can get, see this link for a book on minerals, mining and metallurgy.

Thanks a lot and I will try and look at these books at my Uni library once I return from Summer break. As for what metal I'm interested in, its gotta be iron and its conversion into steel, I know I need to add a certain amount of carbon, however I don't know where to get it from and whilst researching Somali minerals, it turns our that we have large amounts of limestone and coal, could I possibly extract it from there?

Those skills would be beneficial to Somalia. Do you plan going back home to contribute?

Taconite is what you need to get the iron ore you will turn into a steel by removing impurities. Large scale impurity removal requires equipment you can not afford on your own. Limestone is calcium carbonate. Doesn't have iron in it.

On a low scale manipulation of Iron into a steel, it is worth reading some ancient techniques.

Here is an other useful half page explanation of the process of purifying, annealing, tempering the iron.

Apparently, our Somali blacksmiths were doing this for generations and we had no clue.

Effective manipulation and use of steel puts you ahead of the pack. Russians make the best rocket engines because of their superior knowledge of metallurgy. Americans later discovered the gem of Russian rocketry after the soviet failed as a state. NASA used some of those Russian rocket engines to power their rockets. Scientists at NASA said the Russian rockets were 15% more effective than what they had in stock. RD-181 engine rockets produced by Russia are the best now. Russia leads the world in this technology. The rest are catching up.

Quit after calculus 2.

Most degrees require math up to Cal-II anyway. You need higher than Cal-2 for most engineering degrees.

I don't know if med students are required to go beyond Cal-2. May be they do but I never bothered to check their math curriculum .

Medical school doesn’t require it, but most nice degrees require math past calc 2 which was too much for me.

It is because you lack the foundation to do calculus, which is algebra. Make sure you upgrade your algeba knowledge

If you got a passing grade in Cal-II, you can take higher MATH classes with no problem. You are already good in math. It gets easier after Cal-II.

What are your plans for a major?

Drop by the bookstore tonight at Edina mall. Coffee is on me. You know downstairs is isolated mostly and hardly anyone will disturb us as we sit on the floor by the book stacks in that coolly lit underground rooms. We pretend we are reviewing books ;)

I like Older women who are post menopause like you when they are sane.
