I’m not a thug. I was raised in a loving two parent household. I did (still do) well in school and was privately educated. Naturally I act like any other white bloke. The vast majority of my friends are White or Asian and I have the same interests as them.

The funny thing is, when boomers see me engaging in those normal ‘white’ activities it fills their hearts with joy. I remember I went fishing with one of my white friends and his father came along. Ever since then he’s treated me like a son (he is a really nice guy - all round top geezer). Even the most mundane shit like having manners seems to be contradict being black to elderly people especially. I was on my way out of a Wetherspoons the other day and I held the door and let 3 elderly people in and their faces lit up with joy. They were grinning from ear to ear and they made sure to say “thank you”. It was nothing.

idk tho maybe its just me

I get the same shock when it comes to manners. I tend to say excuse me, please, and thank you out of habit and it shocks people. The Somali rep is in the ringer in MN.
Our rep is so bad that even the elderly Somali get shocked when they find out I’m born in US loooooool! I’ve heard many times that I am elderly and Somali women’s dream child. I hold out the doors for elderly and carry their stuff for them too.

Out of topic but i remember a few months ago I was leaving 24 mall. As I was walking to the door, from the corner of my eye is saw a young Somali man who looked like in his late 20s/ early 30s was also going faster towards the same door. I stopped to let him go first cuz I didn’t want to bump into him. I didn’t feel comfortable by the fact a guy might touch me physically. He went first and held out the door for me. I walked out and said Jazakallah out of habit. He looked at me for a moment and said “you’re not part of the day wallahi generation. They aren’t respectful as you.” Looooooool! Nigga didn’t know that I just didn’t want to touch him :mjlol::deadpeter:

I've been going to the 24 mall for years so it's crazy that statistically speaking I've probably passed you once or twice

The fact that you conflate race with manners is indicative of something problematic. It suggests you're highly racially biased and have a caricatured idea of what it means to be a dark skinned person of African origin in the West. I grew up in Canada and was born in the West and pleasantries are the norm. Though I presume certain individuals may have more of a defensive stance considering their sub-culture, where they grew up, who raised them or it could boil down to their personality traits. I suggest you as an Eritrean from Australia or the UK. Considering your use of the word Bloke develop a more nuanced perspective of people who are Black. It's painstakingly obvious that you and those around you fail to consider middle and upper class ones also exist along with madows that are well-mannered which is independent from their SES.

Complelely relate to what you said OP. I qouted something from Harlan Ellison's "I have no mouth, and I must scream" once and posh cadaan mate's aunt nearly had a brain aneurysm :heh:
"Y-Y-you've read Ellison?!" lol, chill the f*ck out Samantha, it's not like I've just discovered penicillin.
