Any puntlanders planning to go back permanently

I'm at a crossroads as to whether I should move to dhulka udug i have my reservations, obviously not everything is perfect there like where I am in the carabta.

I do feel now in my 30s I have this urge to go home and contribute in anyway that i can make a difference use my skills and education and to have a purpose.

Living and just working does not do anything for my happiness.

At first I was just going to choose any African country I've visited kenya and Tanzania a few times and could easily settle in those. However I do feel I should give my own country a chance first. Its the people there i would have an issue with Kenyans and Tanzanians are so humble and calm easy to work with, I have never dealt with somali people hardly know any in my location so would be a big adjustment.

Do you see yourself going home if so where would you go? I'm from qardho and bosaso but I think I would most likely go to garoowe since there's alot more going on.

To me, if your passport not Somali then why not. But first my advice to you. Make visit and see things on the ground before deciding to live their permanently.

I think I'd like to go back, but my main issue is money. I need a first world wage to provide for my first world family. Salaries like that are only achievable back home by running a successful company. If I could get at least an equal salary to what I'd make in Canada, I would probably go back.

I won't go back permantely but just to 'visit' for 3 months or something some-time and check the place out and see what's being done by the govt and people while scanning 4 gaps, check if skill/knowledgetransfer missing, or funding, and finally a benefit analysis.

Areas I am looking around is 'public investment' I want to start something there that the 'public needs and will remember' rather then 'private investment' that no-one remembers. It also depends on my 'family attitude' there how supportive they are of PL which will also 'shape' my attitude if I should contribute or not. So it's important families instill pride in their kids about their region

You would need to save up some good money in canada then go back and start a business. Unless you get a job with a NGO next best thing would be taking the entrepreneurship route.

I would like to visit

Have you never been? Alot of people dont feel like moving for good, but once they visit they're hooked.

I thought you would go back giving how much you care about the place and all ideas you have to improve the place. I don't recommend doing something while your abroad, you gotta be there full time for you to manage your own thing other people will f*ck it up.

Why does it need to be equal if your cost of living is going to be less?

I'd probably urge you to visit but not to settle. Go to Tanzania or Kenya to make huge sums of money first then build a comfortable home in Somalia and retire there in your late 50s.

Sound advice bro! There is good money to be made in east Africa, so many areas unexplored not to mention both countries are booming in population and have a growing middle class. I reckon once you go and settle in those places you never leave really. Most sijuis become permanent residents generations to come.

The risks outweigh the benefits in Somalia. Business owners in Somalia never grow that much tbh, their growth is hindered by books of debts taken by their customers. You'll go bankrupt in 2 or 3 years that's why I urge you to settle in Kenya or Tanzania, they have proper education systems, enormous business opportunities, and above all SECURITY.

Agree! Sometimes you can't help in wanting to contribute to your own country, despite the difficulties but obviously it's a given that other places offer so much more!
