Whaaaat. That’s madness. Biskina. Why do you think that is? What were the overwhelming stories you’d hear?
For my cousins, I'd blame it on Toronto Somali guys being bad news lmao, most of my female cousins initiated the divorces

For my aunts, in most instances the husbands left the wife for a younger woman

Out of all my relatives in Minnesota and Canada, my parents are the only divorced ones and my mom isn’t a single mom, my dad is still involved. I have at least 15 relative families in the twin cities alone, the rest are in toronto, ohio etc.
:wowsweat:
MashaAllah. My mum and dad have a lot of siblings and all of the older gen have been married for at least 25yrs+ and going strong so that’s at least 17 of my aunts and uncles.

What do you think is the cause of that? Why are they 4/5 divorced or separated?
I asked my hooyo a while back and she said its because they weren't birthing enough boys. The only Habyar of mine still married has 8 sons and 4 girls.
I've realized a lot of Somali men in my local community usually divorce. My old macalin who's highly educated in both western academia and Islam divorced 2 other women and he's only 38, I don't think this is a by-product of class but rather mentality. :farmajoyaab:

Birthing boys? What makes it even more awkward is that gender is determined by the father and not the mother.

So, I have a question boys, seeing the issues in your family what is your views of Somali men’s attitudes towards family values and divorce? Also, you mention mentality, what do you think this mentality is fueled by?

This is true. Having children brings more pressures to the families and more responsibilities, so its somewhat understandable although equally tragic that divorce happens. But a childless marriage couple years in, mostly always is alarming. It is calaf, laakin getting to the bottom of why it is should be of upmost importance in the diaspora community.

Btw, I genuinely hope those men who are getting divorced, the reason might aswell be because you want to get a second piece of the poontang pie. Hate to see men divorcing over “finances” or “chemistry”.

Tbh most somali women living in the diaspora are left to raise their kids alone, whilst their husband remarries. Back home though you see the fathers actually doing their job and being in their kid's lives.
