No-one draws anything anymore. Haven't you learnt any design packages?

You don't hand draw anything, you use a program called auto cad and other computer aided designing software.
If you struggle with designing than i don't think Civil is the right choice for you, you can take a look at environmental engineering or
other similar disciplines. Are you a prospective student ? Or are you already enrolled in the program?

When I am talking about drawing I mean that vision of coming up with beautiful design ideas, off course you use design package sofwares but like autocad but I realized that most of the things I draw are pretty much boxes and squares. I am a recent graduate from university in China and during school days the courses that I enjoyed or very good at were like concrete and steel design, solving math related problems and off course I used structure design softwares like Etabs and Midas gen. I recently got a job from company in Oman and I am waiting my papers to get attested from the Omani embassy in chin,soI was wondering if my lack of drawings skills will be a problem for me

So if i understood your problem properly is that, you are having trouble being creative and coming up with your own ideas or vision. Let me tell you something, when you go to Middle eastern countries for employment you really need to be comfortable in your field, because they will not be training you or supervising you at all, in fact you will be training those arabs yourself so you really need to be comfortable in your field. My friend applied to a Civil Engineering position in Saudi Arabia that asked for a 5 year experience, when he was just a newly graduate so he had zero experience. They handed him his own project right away and he struggled mightily and they eventually terminated his contract. So if i were you i would tread carefully and be cautious.

Anyways goodluck.

I think you get my point now, I have no I dea of what to expect. At one point I am having a Somali passport and I don't know if that will be a problem and I was talking to my boss about it and he said he thinks there will be no problem about the visa and the second point if every thing works out I don't know what to expect, job wise. I was speaking to one of my classmates who working in Zambia now who was just like me and he told me an architectural firm gives them architectural drawings and he prepares structural drawings and load calculations using building codes under a supervisor and he tells me he always learns from reference drawings. So I think that is what would suit me best. And I also told my boss about me being fresh and he said he will train me according to Omanis building law. So was wondering if there is some one who went through the process can give me an idea of what to expect

If your boss said that he will train you, then i think you have nothing to worry about and that you should just be more confident , maybe you can get familiar with the resources the Omanis use and how they structure their buildings and look at their water management situation as well, my point is that be familiar with the omani environment so that you won't be caught by surprise when you start at your position.

I am not in Civil Engineering so i have no experience in your field whatsoever besides the basics of how Civil Engineering works.
I am not sure if anyone on this forum is a Civil Engineer so i don't know if anyone can tell you what to expect.
Anyways good luck at your new job.

I think your only issue here is your visa situation but that looks like it will be sorted out.

You are in a better position than me then. I have no idea what to expect from my first job, mashallah for you securing one. I think 'beautiful' designs often start boxy or something that works anyway. Then you can get fancy or what ever. Maybe @Adolf-Hitler can help.

Are you a civil Eng student?

Yes you can be a good civil engineer but having good grasp on CAD/solidworks helps massively. I am not that good at it myself but most companies hire people who have certificates in drawing(it's their only job). Believe it or not, proficiency in microsoft office(excel, word, powerpoint etc..) was all I knew plus okayish skills in matlab before i got hired. You'll be trained by the company you get you first work for as an intern.

If you have time, do learn cad tho.
