There is no excuse for an able bodied person of at least average intelligence to not be middle or upper middle class, even if their parents came as refugees or if their parents were lower class. You honestly don't need to try that hard in life to get there.

Issue is that wages have been stagnant since the 1970s. Look up productivity vs wage charts. Also, I think the official inflation rate is suspect and most employers have only been raising wages roughly with the sus CPI.
Middle class in the West has been getting scammed for a few decades now.
I agree with @AhmedAdde eventhough not everyone is perfect ,
but the ones in the continent are very hardworking , adamant to pounce on any opportunities meanwhile many young Somalis in the west , with all the abundant potentials , generous resources and opportunities they have , they f*ck it up.
I'm not saying you are spoiled but definitely spoonfed to ruin this once of a lifetime opportunity.
In Africa you don't have these privileges , it's a rarity unless you come from a wealthy family then yes live in inequality,
hence one must humble themselves and take the things for granted , many would commit murder just to be in your shoes.
Disagree with me or not , many youngsters that graduated form 11 would study on an empty stomach and come back help their Hooyo's vegetable stand or father's Spaza and they want to work thrice as hard to get out of these circumstances.
Plus many don't live on assistance or hand outs , education isn't free , they don't live on remittances, they have two side hustles yet are ambitious and motive driven.
That's the difference between the two worlds.

A lot of these Somali criminals have siblings who have Middle-Class careers, so why is one child a criminal and one a law-abiding citizen? I am trying to understand what is wrong with them.

We are fobs and proud of it , sxb , our families are all fobs , our neighbours are fob , those that came here yesterday and the ones born and bred have are indifferent and one thing in common we communicate in Somali nothing else.
There are Somali schools teaching Af soomali , they instilled on us , plus I left Somalia in the late 90's but still speak it like maxaa kaa galay thanks to the surroundings eventhough we were exposed to different clans hence adopting new words.
So in a sense we are Somalis and relate to Soomaalida Kenya Zambia iyo Soomaalida soo gashay.

They exclude quite a number of things when measuring inflation, which makes it misleading. Life is definently getting more expensive.
Wages are stagnant for those who are average or below average performers or those who stay at the same job. You should have no issue increasing your salary every year, even if you're part of a union; many of their contracts state you can get an additional wage increase for performance. If you're not getting at least inflationary increases every year, it's a "you" problem.

We have a bad reputation in the U.K. too
so many Somali boys I knew growing up are all in prison for knife crime or drugs. It’s really sad I don’t know if we are ever going to changeDo you seriously expect a marginalized, oppressed ethnic group that just faced 30+ years of terror and trauma to suddenly do well in an unknown foreign country where they are introduced to a new society, customs, culture and language? That's a bit unrealistic in my opinion. Somalis are doing what they can with the resources they have.
