According to Siad Barre's orphans, Farmaajo is an infallible deity that is also the physical manifestation of Somalia. Treating him like a normal human being is blasphemous in those circles.

This isn't surprising. Wired had a article about government-driven social media manipulation and some of the revelations were staggering. It certainly made me more discerning about the provenance of online news:

The report gave examples of the kind of tactics being used in this disinformation war. In Saudi Arabia and the UAE, for example, it said that government agencies, private contractors, civil society organizations, and citizens and influencers were among those launching social media influence operations. The use of bots—automated accounts designed to mimic the behaviour of real people—and human-run fake accounts were observed in both countries, and aimed to spread pro-government propaganda, attack the opposition, and suppress other voices. Spreading disinformation, trolling, and amplifying online content are among the weapons in the cyber troops’ arsenals.

Good to see Twitter is banning these bots, hopefully we see less of them.
