A Kafaala system , make sure they have IDs, a wakeel that would be their designated employer, and pay to stay may it only be 100-300 a year

Have them wait in border towns to been potential employers

The country can use the labor maybe even included Kenyan , EA labor in this kafaala system

kafaala just means guarantee, that if you do something wrong , overstay, etc someone is responsible for you since our state apparatus isn’t as large


Technically Somalia uses something similar to even verify your Somali, go to school etc you need 3 wakiil etc

I think it’s orderly

Kafala in arabia includes that u can't take actions like quiting ur job without the permissions of ur wakiil and ppl can over use that power

We’re not the UAE. We don’t need imported labor. Somalia has a massive youth population already looking for work not to mention thousands displaced by the 2023 floods. You’re out here suggesting a kafala system like we’re running oil rigs. Be serious. We’ve got our own people to employ before turning border towns into some weird waiting room for indentured labor.

Honestly, there’s no easy answer to the Oromo migration. With the way Ethiopia’s falling apart, I genuinely feel for them ,they’re just trying to find a way out and build a better life. But Somalia simply doesn’t have the capacity to process them, let alone manage the implications of large scale migration


Somalia can set up a basic registration system to track who’s coming in and for how long. Temporary residency or work permits could be issued in limited cases, but priority must go to Somali citizens, especially the displaced and unemployed. Border towns need more oversight and resources, not more pressure. We can be humane without turning into a dumping ground for Ethiopia’s collapse.

Somalia's population is quite small. We could do with extra labour but we would have to first employ our own and build facilities than need said workers. Right now, it makes no sense at all. Countries like the UK and France used migrant workers to industrialise and it worked for them. Right now, it's pointless but someday they could be a helpful source.

I feel for them. Most of them are probably miskeen and fleeing. Ethiopia's collapse will cause a massive strain on us nonetheless. You may have seen Kenyans complain about somali migrants but Oromos are 5 or more times bigger in population size than 1990s Somalia.

I’ve got no issue with taking in more immigrants in the future, but we have to prioritize our own people first. Right now, Somalia’s dealing with major resource and capacity constraints, we barely have enough jobs, food, or shelter for our own displaced and unemployed.

Countries like the UK or France brought in migrants when they had the infrastructure, wealth, and stability to absorb them. We’re not there yet. It’s not about being heartless , it’s about being realistic.

That's exactly what I mean. We'd be lucky to have such migrants if we had the infrastructure to utilise them. I do think Somalia's low population will one day be an issue but right now it is a positive. One population is young, you have a clean pallete to work with! Or at least, that's what I'd say in an ideal world where we had a decent leader.

I’m honestly really optimistic about the youth. Both Somaliland and Puntland leadership have started investing in real opportunities for them and finding ways to channel their labor properly. They realized the core issue was the mismatch between the education system and actual market demands, so now there are programs and funds in place to close that gap.


Galbeed was a bit ahead of the curve on this too. And that’s a huge advantage most other countries are dealing with aging populations and relying on immigration to keep their labor force going. Somalia doesn’t necessarily have that problem.

Ofcourse not. But they're special. They're a hostile race on a constant expansion towards us.
Look how much territory we lost since THEY came into contact with us in the 16th century. They'll soon have a border with Somalia and begin chopping from there
