Amharic without a doubt for me. I am interested in politics and would love to be able to understand Ethiopian politics at a deeper level. Ethiopia is a closed book to most Somalis because they use only Amharic unlike Kenya whose politics I can follow easily. More Somalis understanding Amharic would give us a deeper understanding of our historic and future enemy. We currently have a one dimensional view of Ethiopia due to the lack of educated Somali nationalists fluent in Amharic. Almost all Somalis fluent in Amharic are lackeys of the Ethiopian state. Amharic has much higher political utility for Somalis than Swahili, it is not even close.

If espionage and intelligence gathering is the objective, then why would the average Somali need to know Amharic? It should be reserved for security agencies. For business, English will suffice.

As for Swahili, all the Bantu East African countries speak impeccable English. It would be a waste of time.

I said "for me". Why would I waste the tiny amount of education spending that Somali has teaching Somalis a language like Amharic instead of English? Lol

It would be nice if more Somalis could understand Amharic, and I would personally rather learn Amharic than Swahili as learning Swahili is made redundant by knowing English.

Nothing fifth columny about that, unless you have cuqdad against Puntites?
