I've been thinking of writing another history in the horn article, maybe about the Battle of Das and Amde Seyon. There are so many figures from that battle though where there is very little written about them, like the 12 kingdoms that faced off against Amde Seyon, only one (Adal) I know much about.

Please do, and if you have other information, clans(mine especially) please post them, your expertise and outside view is highly valued

What were you doing before this? You've put a lot of effort into your work. It doesn't seem like a little hobby anymore, it's more like a job. :icon lol:

It's a lot but it's over a 10 year or so period, every couple months I run across an interesting piece of info and add it to abtirsi.com or write a post about it.

I'd like to make a video about the crazy 14th century struggle for power in the horn, but there's a lot more research I need to do.

James, how do you reconcile this project with the obvious fact that the Arab patriarch stories are total Fabrications?

I remember a topic he made about an Ethiopian clan that traces their abtirsi to arabs as well. It was exactly similar to the Darod story and he too ended up climbing a tree :icon lol::icon lol:

At some point every genealogy transitions from fact into legend, and then into myth. That doesn't mean it's not worth studying these genealogies. Often the myths and legends are there to explain more complicated truths where the exact facts have been lost to time, but some knowledge remains.

Haha yeah, it's a common story, I think climbing down a tree to lead people has religious significance from pre-Islamic times. In Waaqafeena if Waaq sends a religous leader down from heaven to earth they will land in a tree and climb down to earth, and climbing down onto the shoulders of a particular clan seems to have great significance which is lost to me or you reading it today, not being a Waaqist nomad from the middle ages.
