Alternative history: Meles ousted Isaias 21 years ago

What would have happened if the 1998-2000 border war resulted in not only total military victory for Ethiopia but that Meles ousted Isaias and a pro TPLF government in Asmara was installed afterwards? What would the last 21 years have looked like for the whole Horn

Hmmm I do believe that the former liberation struggle veterans would've went to the mountains, regrouped, and restarted their struggle again. Eventually they would've won too, for various reasons. It would've been a long bloody guerrilla war all over again. A Tplf member once said : "if we try to penetrate too far into Eritrea, we will be destroyed, and the same goes for Eritreans if they go too far within Ethiopia."
The TPLF would have tried to annex Massawa, for sea access for Tigray, but it would have to deal with nonstop attacks on their men, seeing as how no Eritrean would accept the loss of any land..

@Abba Sadacha what if Ethiopia quickly pulled out as soon as they installed a new government to replace the Isaias regime
They would need to keep and sustain a large military presence in Eritrea to keep their puppet in power... Because the Eritrean people wouldn't accept any of their being annexed to Tigray or Ethiopia.
Even America, a super power, couldn't sustain it's puppet party in places like Afghanistan, even after spending billions to arm and train their puppet Allies army.

That would much great for Eritrea on terms of economics and freedom of expression even though it will be limited at least people won't be surveilled or forced in conscription and most importantly no more people migrating put of the country with diaspora community continue to sent remittances in easier way to make sure it goes where it needed to be.

Isias isn't supported by most of the people as he is authoritarian maniac who runs the country as his farmland wit no constitution laws or parliament is just one man running the whole nation like modern day feudalism. If he was removed by Ethiopia there's a chance ELF would have been in the helm
