I don't know why the minority are attracted by the shabab.. Amisom countries are making good money in Somalia.. The amisom soldiers are higher paid than the to ones in their native countries..I was reading a while ago how Burundi was protesting to cut down their contingent in the amisom. These africans are not going home anytime soon.. They will stay for another 20 or so years.. Unless of course the EU and other donor countries stop paying for their Somali adventure.

They are good only for 'recruitment' as foot soldiers, they are not the brains or money behind shabab. Shabab uses local funding thru 'zako' in Hamar and tax collection and extortion mechanism locally. It uses foreign terrorists who join them on idealogical agreement and assist in upgrading their insurgency and bomb making techniques. That's why you see a few arabs, pakis, americans in them. They are there for 'specific' functions that local Somalis lack. They have leadership which is mainly Somali and diverse in Clan origin and driven by radical islam beliefs.

That leadership is mainly Somali clans, but when u study the founder, u will find HG and Cayrow, it didn't exist shabab or insurgency untill he started it and it was due to sharif abadoning the courts for somali presidency.
