There is no need for this at all, there is literally a mosque 100 metres from there. Erdogan is simply using populist antics to secure his presidency.

Furthermore this is a world heritage site with countless images of Jesus , Saints etc in it from a thousand years ago. How on earth could you perform a salat in the middle of that.

Finally, as a history buff the art work is already dying off and it's a shame that this ancient building is being used a political tool.
