All Somali regional states including SL have been in some type of conflict since 1991(1980s in case of SSDF and SNM)
SL battles with Puntland, 2003-Present
SL battles with Khatumo/SSC 2003-Present
SL civil war from 1992-1997(including HY militia occupation of Berbera)
SNM war with with SNA/Siyaad Barre from 1983-1991.

That is more than 30 years of history of conflict for SL troops and their ancestors the SNM( many serving in the SL army are ex SNM).

Don’t even count the numerous internal clan fighting that they constantly have to mediate and police.


SL Troops are surprisingly are well experienced in combat.

Puntland has had its fair share of battlefield experience.

SSDF battles vs SNA 1982-1983(most of SSDF members surrender to Govt, rest continued to fight around Mudug as late as 1988)
March 1991: Battle of Galkacayo(combined darood militias battle vs Sacad)

1992/93 vs Al Itixaad in Bari.

2002 Battle between AY and Jama Ali Jama/Cadee Musse AUN.
