Alcohol consumption in Somalia

Broski, I'm a westerner. I haven't been back home in more than a decade. What would I know of the private habitual khamri drinkers? :patrice:

I'm qorbajoog too, a clueless hooyo mataalo to add on it. :drakekidding:

It's been a long time for me too, but you remember thinks you see as a young kid (I'm still young). But I've seen and heard (still hear from relatives who go there often) about unexpected things, so I was a bit traumatized when I assumed that my 'holy' upbringings in the west would match back home. Only to find out that they are worse. :leon::mjlaugh:

Obviously, not the majority, but enough minority to make this judgement. (The stat is obviously fake, as it's very low irl). These people need to be cleansed tho. :kendrickcry:

I've also spent more time with Somalis in Ethiopia, than on the other side of the border, hence another experience. Since I come from border areas, there are higher Ethiopian gaalos living there. Those Somalis and muslims are exposed more to it, and therefore look at it differently unfortunately. I guess, there are good and bad people everywhere. :mjdontkno:

It's undoubtedly the lowest in the world, right at the bottom, maybe similar levels to Mauritania and Yemen or something.

WHO from the same year:

:mjlol:Reminds me of when some survey increased HIV stat numbers by 10 times despite what the data showed.

Yep, like always is Somalia on the over-exaggerated end of statistics for some reason. The 'consumption' of Somalis is so low, that it's not even noticeable. Even though I was 'boasting' about it, it barely happens among the public, besides a small segment of society where it is concentrated. Not often is it also people who can afford it and the elites, if you indeed see a larger consumption of liquor.

What's worse was them making it appear as if MENA has almost of all of their citizens abstaining from alcohol when it's the contrary. Much higher than Somalia.

Just Tunisia alone was ranked *second* highest in the word. Not to mention other MENA countries. This is a better representation. Somalia is ranked the lowest, which is accurate. Even much lower than Yemen.

The map is bs.
How does Africa and Middle East have high alcohol consumption but Europe doesn't?
I live here and these Europeans live on wine and beer. I was a 16 year old somali and I had boys and girls at school asking to go drinking with me, which I declined.

Nice bait thread @Duucale1 :pachah1:

Afghanistan has always been a country who had struggled with drugs, so it's not surprising to see a high alcohol consumption.

Here's a video of Taliban dumping 3000 liters of alcohol. Imagine living in a country with strict shariah implementation and still daring to deal with khamr. It says a lot... :francis:

The statistics are always illegitimate. I tried to find the data, that obviously did not work. They pulled those numbers out of their arse. As if they went around and asked Somalis about alcoholism when simple polls about important matters are rarely put out.

I think Afghanistan is in the same category as Somalis, no proper surveying just nonsense.

Undoubtedly, the country struggles with opioid addiction. I've seen families and little children smoking it, some seriously sad conditions. (it is after all the biggest producer of poppy). In that sense, the Taliban did a great job. Addicts got thrown into spaces where they could sober up.

Agreed, it is indeed distorted. Despite being 'consumed' in Afghanistan, it's much lower with Somalia. In fact, I can assure you that few countries beside Somalia has such a staunch anti-alcohol culture. In many muslim countries, despite low consumption, they still have traditions of local produced 'illicit spirits', such as Sudan (called araqi) and other arab countries. Nevertheless, is it still lower than non-muslim countries.

I also think that in countries with laws prohibiting alcohol, has a weird unbalance with consumption. Oftentimes is it few people with high consumption, then a more spread out phenomenon among the society. As they often report liter consumed, than number of people.

The few people who brew it illegally in Afghanistan or by Somalis, the amount is so minuscule it would not even hit the survey radar. The other countries drink billions of gallons of that poison yearly.

Look at this statistic of cases per 10,000 of fetal alcohol syndrome:

Gaalos are weak everytime they have even a little trouble they turn to alcohol to numb themselves.

Thanks for this, it makes more sense. The way people consume here in my country in the west, you'd have to drink a lot to match them. Without alcohol people are depressed. :mjlol:

But I still don't understand what they would gain from over exaggerating alcohol consumption in places where it's publicly known that people are against it??!!? :damedamn:

I have no idea they would do that. Even legit surveys that got done through fieldwork are often full of false information when you methodologically peep their investigative approach and results for what they try to infer upon, especially in projections and such.

Somalis culturally don’t drink nor do we religiously drink. I have met only one Somali alcoholic and he was an agoon raised in Italy by his Italian mom and drank one cup of wine a year.

Somalis thinking this is a flex that we dont drink alcohol our country is addicted to narcotic drugs... which is haram

We are very far from halal

It's obviously not that high but alcohol from Ethiopia is readily available in Somalia in the underground.
