The US is probably the only reason this Shabaab war is succeeding.

If only they lifted the drone strike restrictions. Currently they only bomb after Danab are about to get attacked. Which is a ridiculous situation as they could do this more routinely.

They watch Somali Troops get killed all the time, the U.S knows Turkey will help and doesn't want to lose leverage. U.S is only in Somalia for Oil and military Bases to push their interests. They could of bombed Jilib and all the other places that the leaders are hiding but instead pick and choose drone strikes. Somalia should push towards Countries like Russia and Iran at least they will give us Weapons the U.S wants Somalia Weak which is why they will always vote yes on keeping Somalia under a Weapons Embargo.

Biden put restrictions on drone strikes, only approving self defence strikes. Part of it is politics because people like Ilhan Omar and the far left in the democrats complain about any air strikes and ‘casualties’ etc. Biden is terrified of getting backlash from the progressives.

Very weird situation now where the US is using self defence excuse for preemptive strikes but can’t bomb 500 Shabaab fighters sitting in a base
