This is straight cap hombre. ICU was only popular in the south, those northern reers who tried to politically align themselves to the ICU and its predecessor Ittihad, got dealt with ferociously.Do you know what ICU means ?
Al Shabaab had only 9 seats out of 94, and they werent AQ during ICU, also dont understand whats the context behind that single page you linked it doesnt even have a date like a year of when this happened, most of ICU abandonned the fight against TFG cause they didnt want the US to bomb the shit out of everything, Shabaab were one of the only courts that refused to stop fighting so they did their own thing and most ICU fighters who also still wanted to fight just joined Shabaab, they went from a few hundreds to 2500 by 2009 and then around 5000 today
ICU was very diverse in ideology you had Salafis fighting alongside Sufis, you also had Somalis from all over Somaliweyn from Djibouti to NFD who fought for it, it was basically a united Islamic front against the warlods and they succeeded and united the whole south under them in a few months

Al Afghani is not Somali, heās Sudanese.None of the top leadership today is Isaaq. The current Emir is Biyoomaal Dir, The spokesperson is Hawiye, Shangole is Darod etc. Yes at one point Isaaqs were overrepresented is since many Isaaqs were veterans of the war against the Soviets and had AQ connections due to their time in AFG/PAK like Godane (Arap) and Al-Afghani (Habar Awal). But you literally have Mukhtar Robow who was chilling with Bin Laden & Zawihiri when 9/11 happened and is now a member of your govt. He was literally one of the highest ranking al Qaeda member from Somalia.
So you really think Puntlanders in 2006 liked TFG ? Are you serious ?This is straight cap hombre. ICU was only popular in the south, those northern reers who tried to politically align themselves to the ICU and its predecessor Ittihad, got dealt with ferociously.
Puntlanders liked puntland, nobody running around on this Somalia pipe dreamSo you really think Puntlanders in 2006 liked TFG ? Are you serious ?

The ICU banned movies at the request of parents who complained that their children were skipping school to go to the cinemas and there is no proof that they made restrictioms on hair and clothing.Itās true though.

ICU as a whole wasn't extremist, but obviously they were extremist that had significant power amongst them. It was a coalition, remember that. Do you deny Godane was an ICU leader? The ICU banned movies at the request of parents who complained that their children were skipping school to go to the cinemas and there is no proof that they made restrictioms on hair and clothing.
All of the extremist allegations levied on the ICU are frankly straight up BS. Literally nothing more than Zenawi and Bush propaganda without a shred of evidence. I even doubt Dahir Aweys was extremist too since I haven't found any proof.
You're delusional honestly, maybe now people are thinking more about leaving but back then it wasnt even a considerationPuntlanders liked puntland, nobody running around on this Somalia pipe dream
Al-Shabab was a minor military wing and Godane only became leader after Ayro's death.ICU as a whole wasn't extremist, but obviously they were extremist that had significant power amongst them. It was a coalition, remember that. Do you deny Godane was an ICU leader?
He was the general-secretary, while another Shabaab guy got education, and they also got the heads of security and Robow for defense. They were hardly insignificant.Al-Shabab was a minor military wing and Godane only became leader after Ayro's death.
Robow wasn't even extremist and Godane wasn't the leader. Whatever minor extremist elements existed in the ICU was kept on check by the other courts. He was the general-secretary, while another Shabaab guy got education, and they also got the heads of security and Robow for defense. You have no understanding or knowledge of puntland politics, ofc you are a Galla slave, I donāt expect you to. I lived there and conversed with all segments of PL society, there are three camps. The unionists (southern mj and bakhtiga la yimid) , the secessionists (used to be popular) and the middle of the road status quo people (traditionally inclined towards breaking away but too attached to this Somalia concept)You're delusional honestly, maybe now people are thinking more about leaving but back then it wasnt even a consideration
