Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for killing of former Hiiraan governor in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (HOL) - The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the shooting dead of former Hiiraan region governor Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow in Mogadishu Saturday night.
The group said in its affiliate website that its fighters gunned down Maow in Wadajir district in Mogadishu Saturday night. Maow had declared intention to run for member of parliament for seat 58 allocated for HirShabelle.
Maow was once a member of the defunct Islamic Courts Union which birthed Al-Shabaab in 2007. The deceased becomes the first parliamentary candidate to be killed in Mogadishu in this electoral cycle.
