Why do some older somali men go back home to marry young, poorer brides? Three of my abtis who are in their 40s have married girls around my age (18, 19 and 21). I don’t see what the appeal is. The girls are obviously only marrying them because of their circumstances, and that’s just sad. It just rubs me the wrong way. Have you guys seen this too or is my family just f*cked lol. Thoughts?

This is also weird and disturbing but I’m talking about Somali men. I have never seen an older somali woman marrying a teenage Somali guy

If you have money it’s easier to marry someone younger than you and it goes for both genders. More and more women in 30’s/40’s are marrying guys in 20’s/30’s too because these women have everything they just need a partner. The younger a person is the less experience they have in life.

the culture of Somalis is different from other cultures. when you are marrying someone, the whole family of both sides are involved and taking advantage usually doesn't happen.

As long as they are not marrying under age girls it’s none of our business. Everybody has different circumstances on why they marry someone older than them if could be finance, stability, passport, love etc we don’t know but as you get older you will know what you want and make better choices in life.

Yeah I agree but desperation leads them to marry older men with wives and kids. I know for sure a young woman would prefer a handsome fit young man any day but it’s life.

Thats what I'm not okay with, desperation. Some of these girls get pressured by their family to do this.

I swear in 10 years we are gonna hear stories about Somali girls who escaped marrying an old diaspora man.
