That may be the case but many educated people today don't conduct themselves in such a way. They didn't have the influence of hip-hop culture and ratchet behaviour was frowned upon back then and it reflects in their mannerisms.

I agree, and also maybe the quality of education has gone down. Lots of people with degrees now but very few with ‘an education’.

Could also be - people likely to go to university back then were already wealthy and already had training on these things from their schools and homes. Whereas now a greater variety of social classes go to university.
 
Another thing I want to add is that i'm impressed with the fact that people took pride in their appearance, both men and women. Often times, whenever I see clips from that era, people were often very elegant and polished. I'm even talking about videos of people going about their everyday lives ect.
