The problem with Somalis is they think a little cheap maro that’s worn all across Africa belongs to them.Almost every country in Asia/MiddleEast/Africa has a version of the baati/Dirac. Years after year the Somali language is getting increasingly arabized. Where we once used a Somali word for an item of food or clothing the Arabic version is replaced.
Macawiis, is the Arabic version but it Was replaced from xoos guunti.
Anjera (an African word clearly this dish was our version of the Ethiopian one) is replaced with the Yemeni laxoox.
Bun, a word only used occasionally now for the beans in Somali but now replaced with the Yemeni qawah. Bear in mind all Ethiopians use bun/bunna and that’s where coffee originated and that’s how we previously called coffee
There are literally hundreds of words we replaced from Cushitic origins to Yemeni Arabic even though Somalis interacted/discovered this items beforeYemenis.
